Philadelphia Black Gay Pride is this weekend and I'm not attending - partly because my BIRTHDAY BASH is Friday -- if you want to attend my birthday party and haven't RSVP'd -- be sure to do so shortly.
They are having interesting and fun events such as free testing, Soul Cinema and a performance from R&B singer Donnie. There is ONE party that is going down, which goes down every year by a group called "THE PHIRM." It is the main "boy" party of the weekend ... One of my best friends in Philly told me in a moronic attempt to keep the "boyness" heavy, they have instituted certain requirements such as NO transgenders, drag, or femme queens ALLOWED? I think this is despicable, discriminatory, foolish, vapid and a horrid example of what is wrong with the LGBT black community. IN ADDITION, the dress code is:
Dress code: start w/ Timbs, sneakers and work your way up
Is this a Pride Event, or a sex party?
Is this a Pride Event, or an Adam4Adam ad?
This is supposed to be PRIDE weekend where the variations of the LGBT community are celebrated -- not a function to cut people in their individual box so they can feed the ILLUSION of masculinity. You would NEVER have a lesbian party that said: "No studs or butches allowed." However, with these insecure black men who are still holding onto the last remains of their heterosexuality they choose to act like the dumb straights and not allow people in who have alternative genders.
I have never had a desire to be a woman, or dress in women's clothes, but I have never hated one someone who has. Having a transgender in a club next to me doesn't bother me at all -- what actually might bother me more is a gay man in his "homothug drag" --- which can often times be as overdramatic as a drag queen. This is not to say that every non-hetero who dresses like someone from a bad BET video is being fake, however, if you want EVERYONE to dress this way obviously people are NOT going to be themselves ... isn't that what a Pride Event is about? Being yourself -- or close to being yourself that you couldn't be in hetero environments? Supposedly the dress code is not a requirement but the no tranny law is -- either way it is foolish!
This is an example of what we do not need. Most (not all) male to female transgenders were once gay men and for a Pride event to institute this Jim Crow rule is outlandish -- to my knowledge "real" women are allowed to attend.
As Prodigal Sun would say BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO to THE PHIRM!
